I've tried a bunch of loads for my XVR. I've had more practice with the 300 gr speer than any other, just because that's what I could find. 4" groups at 50 yds is about all I could get with H-110 and mag primers, but that's just me. I was using published velocities at 1400-1500 fps. I have a few loaded with the 240 xtp mag and H-110 loaded to the max. It's tough for me to shoot enough of them at one time to really get comfortable using them in a hunting situation.

You might take a look at handloads. com or Hodgdon's website data. I recently bought a box of the 200 gr Hornady flex tip bullets and can't wait to try a few with H-110 and 2400.

A couple of weeks ago, I got my XVR back from S&W to fix a couple of things. It feels better than new, but it has been raining so much that I havn't gone to the range with it yet.

Good luck

I like the 200gr Hornady. I killed a deer last year 1 shot at 85 yds hit a little high above the front shoulders and it turned the deer 180 and droped where it was standing. At the range the metal plate at 250yds is a hold on shot Read my post in smithing If you use cast

My hunting load with 240 grn XTP-Mags and H110/W296 is 46.5 grains using LR magnum primers. They shoot very well, but anything hotter tends to lead to sticky extraction in my gun. I also load the 240s and 300 grainers with Lil' Gun.

Lil' Gun and Hornady XTP-Mag bullets in .460 S&W.

Hornady's recipe for the 240 grainers is 40.1 to 51.4..............My gun likes 47.

Hornady's recipe for the 300 grainers is 29.3 to 38.4..............My gun likes 34.5.

With both of these I use Winchester Large Rifle primers. Both of these loads print similarly outta my gun @ 50 yards. Both loads are fairly accurate and still pleasant to shoot. I have not chronoed either of these loads, but feel they are fast enough for anything I hunt.

Altho I have double checked my records and the recipes in the manuals, I suggest you verify these recipes with another source.

Hodgdon's website doesn't list a recipe for the 240's and their starting load for the 300s is 40 grains......way, way too hot for my gun.

Not so lucky. Iffin he was my brother, I'd make him give me some of those 240Gr. XTPs. I'm down to my last box and Haven't been able to find any for three months.

Buck460xvr, I noticed your data for the 460, lil'gun and 300gr xtp bullets. I have been using hodgdon data that starts at 40gr too, and got sticky extraction with just the starting load. I wonder if hogdon has screwed up a little?

I wondered also since the Hornady MAX load is 38.4.

I still prefer H110 under the 240s.
