My local gun store primarily stocks IMR and Hodgson with a some DOT?

I'll be loading it with Sierra FMJ and Hornady FMJ and Laser cast LRN 147g

I don't reload for 9mm....yet! However, a friend who does loves Accurate Arms #7.

Accurate Arms powders are very good in the 9mm. AA#5 and AA#7 are primo, in my opinion. Only problem being is the OP doesn't mention them as being available to him at his local store! That would be a problem!

My favorite carry load is a 147gr bullet over a healthy dose of AA#7.

That being said, you still have some excellent choices available for the 9mm from the manufacturers you have mentioned.

IMR, SR7625 or SR4756, either one will have some good loads for the 9mm.
Hodgdon, from Titegroup to Longshot, depending on what you want to get performance wise and what firearm you are shooting these out of.
DOT, I'm not sure what you are speaking of here unless it is the Alliant line of "DOT" powders. To be honest, I'm not too fond of any of those. Others are, just not me.

Hope this helps.

I'm old fashoned, I use Unique. You get very high load density and I have no problems matching factory velocities.

WW231 works well also, but is more sensitive to minor variations in charge. I expect a wide variety of powders will work well.

I use HP38/W231.
Come to think of it, I use it for just about every handgun load. That's why I just bought a 8lb jar. I do have several other powders for those special times.
My needs are simple. Move it out the gun and hit the paper.

I use Green Dot or HP38/231. In equal charge weights. But if those powders are not available in your area I would go with IMR 7625. This is an excellent powder but not extremely popular. As a result it's one of the few powders that is readily available from distributors. If your dealer doesn't have it. He can get it.

I have had very good results with Hogdon Titegroup. It is very economical (a plus in these times). I am also a big fan of AA#5. I primarily use 115gr FMJs in 9mm.

I've used Unique and W231 for more than 25 years for 9mm with excellent results.

Sgt Preston here. I use Win 231 for my 9mm rounds & they all seem to print the target right where I expect to see them appear. For the record, I use 4.2 grains of Win 231 to propel 124 grain Berry's copper plated flat nosed bullets. I set the overall length to 1.090 + or -.005 & I taper crimp the brass to .378 / .379 diameter. These days I fire my 9's out of a Stainless Steel Springfield Armory 1911 x 5".The gun cycles perfectly everytime. Hope this helps. Sgt Preston USMC LLA

I've only tried Unique, Blue Dot, and Bullseye. Of the three, Unique has proved to be most efficient and it actually burns cleanly.

+1 for Unique. 4.5gr w/124gr CJRN, good accuracy and yes it does burn fairly clean, cleaner than Bullseye for sure.

Used to use 231, but now use Clays in both .38 and 9mm. Same charge weight, different bullet weight.

Unique or Win-231 have been my standard go to powders for the 9mm Luger. I acquired two one pound containers of Win-AutoComp for experimentation usage. Only used in the 9mm Luger to date with bullet weights 124/125Gr. Appears to be clean burning, minimizes muzzle flash, meters consistently with powder measure, and acceptable accuracy at 50 yards. Test bed firearms Glock-G17 and a S&W-MP9.

ME TOO. Off the top of my head 8 grains is max. I, for the most part, don't load ANYTHING at max! 7.2 grains w/122 LTC boolet. has previded me with many an hour of shooting enjoyment. Got this little 39-2 that can put 8 rounds touching at 15 yards standing (two hands) on MY good day. Nuf said.

In 9mm HS6 works well with plated bullets. I use 6.4 gr. under 124 gr. bullet with standard primer (not magnum as many manuals would recommend). This load is accurate and clocks at minor power factor in Glock 19. For jacketed bullets I prefer titegroup.

+1 for HS6. I put a "healthy charge" behind 124 grain Montana Gold FMJ or JHP. HS6 meters extremely well.

I use Clays, Clays Universial, Green Dot, Ramshot Zip which I love for all my handgun loads and I just bought three pounds of the new WW Autocomp to try out. Powder is getting as hard to find as primers here, plenty of Trail Boss and WW296 but thats about it locally so I have been stocking up the past month or so. FWIW, Clays is probably the softest shooting and cleanest for 9mm that I have used.

I like Hodgdon HS6 for moderate loads and Accurate 7 is really hot in 9mm max loads.

I use mostly Bullseye, but I use Bullseye for most handgun cartridges. I'm going for accuracy and economy, not power.

I load for a 940 (9mm revolver) and need to be wary of sticky extraction. Practically anything will work in the standard velocity and pressure range but I find that for top end loads the best powders are Power Pistol, SR 7625 and 800X, in that order. Soon I will be trying SR 4756 and I have high hopes for that one too.

I am loading for a S&W 547 revolver. AA2imp, AA7,the best load is a 125 cast loaded backwards putting the bearing surface closer to the throats. I have loaded wadcutters in this gun, even 148 dewc. .3565 bullets work best. casemaster cases then load normally and use a super 38 carbo size die on the loaded round, 2.7 or 3.2 AA2.

The 9mm is very cheap here in Switzerland. It is not possible to reload it cheaper than you buy 2000 factory - rounds.
But if I reload it for my Beretta 92FS i go with:

Cases: Geco (Dynamit-Nobel)
Primer: Small Pistol
Bullet: Speer FMJ 124 gr.
Powder Accurate #2
Powderweight 4.1 gr
COL: 1.163 inches

Using of this data is at your own risk.

I love to reload.. been at it since 1967. Favorite 9mm powder for 115 gr fmj or hp in my M&P 9mm: SR7625 gives me 1113 fps with stunning accuracy and XTP or GDHP make no difference. I get good performance with 5.1 gr of HP-38 too. For all my 124 gr jhps (including Hornady HAP) it's 4.4 gr of Titegroup. I'm messing around with others now. My Beretta M9 and Taurus PT92 take a little hotter stuff and are inherently more accurate, perhaps because of 1 more inch of barrel. Not sure.

I've found 9 MM to very amenable to multiple powders and shoot accurately. I've loaded Accurate #2, W231, Unique, Bullseye, HS6 and Blue Dot, which I am presently using. It gives good results for me and it is also impossible to make a dangerous overload, at least with 115 grain bullets because of case fill. I wish I could give some velocity numbers, but I don't yet have a chronograph. Santa Claus is supposed to bring me one. Of the others I've loaded with, the A #2 and HS6 metered best out of my old Lyman 55 powder measure. I would love to try some Accurate #5 or 7, but it is still catch as catch can for powder selection for pistols right now.

I'm going to suggest giving a new powder a try. Specifically Hodgdon CFE Pistol. Looking at the load data indicates that it is similar or slightly faster than Unique and as a ball powder it will meter much much better than Unique. In addition if those claims about it eliminating copper fouling it will reduce the work involved in cleaning your pistol after a range outing. BTW, I tend to view claims like this one to be more hype than fact so don't expect a huge reduction in the copper fouling you see.

My two favorites (so far) are Bullseye and CFE Pistol.

This thread's only 5 years old (except the last few posts). Do you think the OP has gotten his question answered?

From the number of you that mentioned 231 as the favorite powder is probably the reason I CAN'T FIND ANY. 231 has been my go to powder for ever "standard" load in nearly all calibers. Not for any magnum loads.

I just scored 10# of Bullseye, my favorite 9mm target load powder. Now I can load 9mm 'till H#%- freezes over!

I have uses Bull, Red, Green, Uniq.......
W231, 700x, 800x, SR 4756 and 4227 in all types of 9mm loads.

I have gone to the plated 115 and 124 in the last few years
for my target and standard loads in short and standard length
barrels for my 9mm work.

My best powder for 925 fps X-lite target to standard 9mm Luger
loads has been Red Dot. No other fast burning powder at only
3.5 grs can match it in accuracy for a light target load in "My" 3" pistol.

I would like to do more 4" barrel testing but it is hard to pull
that pistol out of the kids hands !!

It also beats out 98% of the powders in the 1115 fps factory
Dup. standard load department for general shooting ammo
in my little 3" barrel.

I also like the way it fills up the case............
