I've only shot Black Hills 250 factory loads and Speer 250 Gold Dot factory loads.

What are your favorite reload recipes for this revolver?

Since I'm kinda partial to W231, I use 8gr of it behind a 200gr RNFP for +/- 1000fps and 7.1 behind the 250gr RNFP for +/- 915.

Going with jacketed, which I rarely use, I go the the GDSP or GSHP. Can't find the loads now.

However, there is a plethora of choices out there that range from OK to just super.

I use this load in my 625 MG and my Colt/USFA single actions.

RCBS #45-270 SWC, 18.5 gr. H4227, WLP primer,
890-900 FPS. When cast from WW the bullets weights 280 grs.

I seat the bullet just so it clears the end of the cylinder.

For plinking I use a RNFP 200 gr bullet and 5 grains of trailboss, WLP primer

Sir, for years my standard .45 Colt load has been 8.0 grains of Unique with a cast lead 250, either semi-wadcutter or roundnose flat point. The same powder charge under a lead 200-grain bullet makes a nice light plinker.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

I'm with Ron -- 8 grains Unique under 250-255 grain lead bullet. However, with the 200 grain lead, I up the charge to 9 grains Unique.

With 250 ~ 255g SWC, the gold standard is 8 ~ 9 grains Unique.

Using the same boolit, 7.5 ~ 8 grains of W231 works well.

I'll have to join Ron and the Unique users as well. 8 grains of Unique and 250 grain SWC or RNFP. I do like the combination in my Mountain Gun.

I have used 7.0 of Unique and a 250 or 200 gr cast swc. However, 8.0 will work fine also.

I'm with the crowd. 250-255 gr lead bullet over 8-8.5 gr of Unique. I've never found anything better.

If I need the power for hunting, then a RCBS45-270SAA (282gr), WLP primer and 20.0gr 4227.

For plinking/target either a Speer 250gr swaged LSWC or a 255 Cast SWC and 10.0gr Win Super Field. It will cut cloverleafs all day with this load.

Like Beans, a 200gr RNFP and 5.0gr Trail Boss is a fun load too, especially for close and fast!
