I am looking for 38 special Remington brass. Not nickel plated.

Needs to be new, and a case of 2,000.

Anybody got a good source for this item on the cheap...ok on the less expensive.

Thanks,

Fred

If you have to have new brass your not going to find any good deals, what about once fired at about half the price?

Would you mind telling why so specific, if it's a moonclip or shellplate issue, there might be alternatives.

I am a bit of an anal retentive when it comes to reloading.

My 686 is tricked out for ppc and bianchi. I use Rem. brass. Last time I bought it was a case of 2,000, I sized, trimmed and debured every single piece. Since then I have never trimmed this batch again. The idea is to have all brass starting at same length and shoot them the same amount. They will all be about the same length and will crimp similarly. Consistant reloads.

I would consider used brass if it was all brass (not nickel) remington. Would likely buy more that way.

Regards,

Fred

I may be in the minority, but I have never trimmed a revolver case in 30 plus years of reloading.

DUDE, REALLY,

If your that anal about your brass, you might as well start with the best.

www.starlinebrass.com

Closest tolerances of any brass I've used.

AND REMINGTON, oh how I dislike it.... thin, thin , thin.

brassmanbrass, he's in LasVegas. He will have what you want in stock, and get it to you quickly. I've yet to be let down.

I have trouble with Starline. Moon clip trouble.

I already have a bunch of Remington brass and it has seen 5 reloadings with less than 6 split cases so far. I would rather keep all the same brass.

I tried Gunbroker, but it is always changing, I will keep my eye on it.

BrassManBrass is a fantastic link, I tried to order once fired rem. brass and they appear to be out. They also have 37mm hulls for my S&W tear gas grenade launcher. This site seems promising. I will call them during business hours.

Midway is out of Rem 2000 round brass but it is "due in" very soon.

Thanks for all help.

Fred

HappyHunter,

If you like prepping revolver brass as you describe, how 'bout I send you about 5K mixed, once fired .38s and you "do 'em up" for me?? Deep down, I'd like to see what I could squeeze out of prepped and selected brass, but I don't have the time to do so.

I don't know if Rem bulk brass and Rem UMC(R-P) are the same brass but with UMC I find that about 5% of it has off centered flash holes. I prefer Federal over R-P. A lot of my .38spl brass was once fired range pick up.

One big reason why I gave up Highpower Rifle competition is the time-wasting anal-retentive brass prep necessary to keep the rifle shooting its best.

Now when I want to shoot some prone competition out comes the Anschutz. I open the bolt and don't care where the brass lands.

The only handgun sport I care about is IDPA and there a load is good enough if it can hold 3" at 25 yards.

I have shot enough to realize that the mental part of shooting is the most difficult.

My brass prep is just another way to give me a percieved edge...If I think that it is better, it is better.

I will be performing a test of standard range brass and my special prepared brass off of sandbags at 25 yards. Might be interesting.

Please do update us on that comparison testing. I've always wondered what the real world benefit would be of trimming revolver brass.

In 38 I prefer Winchester brass. Better neck tension with my setup. Very minimal crimp is needed.
