Wow, that recall dates back to 2005, and I'm surprised we haven't heard more about it or at least a few destroyed hand guns! That is a very very big mistake for a powder manufacturer to make.

Good info, as you never really know how old the container of powder on the store shelf is unless you are looking for it. With the skyrocketing cost of reloading components lately, I have been thinking hard on picking up an 8lb bottle of Unique. It is a very versatile powder that can be used in many applications and calibers. This info is good to have. I wrote down the lot numbers just in case some of the old stuff is still on the shelves out there. Thanks for the info.

You know, this recall was very well publicized at the time Alliant issued it in the summer of 2005. I'm shocked that anyone who buys Unique by the eight-pounders wouldn't know about it. By way of suggesting that this is not news (and is probably distracting many of us who are saying, "Good Lord, a recall on Unique! Oh. Not THAT again!," upon opening this thread ), I'd point out that the recall could have gone through law school and passed the bar in the three and a half years since Alliant issued it. ;D

Where've you all been?

Not to mention, if you use Unique regularly(why else would you buy 8lbs), you'd sure as heck notice the flake difference.

It would'nt upset me to much to get 8lbs of Bullseye by accident, that is as long as I noticed before I tryed it.

WOW, do ya think.
High pressure ain't the word for it.

I use Unique in the .357, .41 mag and .45 Colt. My old Lyman 55 meters it just fine. It is somewhat sticky on an inconsistent basis, but a steady firm stroke on the measure works well. Any suspect load is dumped. 7.0 grains works very well with every bullet I have tried in my .41 Ruger Bisley.

Ditto- I thought 2400 FPS was a little higher than normal for my .45 Colt with a cast 265 SWC, even if it is a 4" barrel.
