Default S&W 500 Hornady FTX Seater Plug

What kind of seater plug do you guys use to seat the 300gr Hornady FTX bullets for .500 S&W?

I have had issues with smashing the red tip or gouging the jacket with the two plugs that came with my press...should I use a different caliber plug, or does Hornady make one specifically for this bullet? Please advise

Hey grit ,

Just loaded some yesterday ! I'm using RCBS dies, and they came with 2 seater plugs. One is flat which loads every 500 bullet I use, other than the ftx. The other plug is for a more pointed bullet. I did get a light ring around the bullets where the plug made contact, but I don't think it will be an issue.

300 gr FTX over 41.0 gr Lil Gun Supposedly 1700+ fps (almost starting load)
350 gr Berry's over Titegroup
350 gr XTP over H4227
400 gr Sierra over H4227

'good to hear from you JD. I use those same RCBS plugs, but that ring it leaves on the jacket really bugs (although I doubt it really changes performance). I was just hoping that there was something out there that would fit these bullets a little better, as to avoid "the ring".

Regards,
