So complain to the forum admins to delete everything that is over XX months old. I think pretty much everybody knows that "they may get inaccurate information" from the internet whether 7 years old or 7 minutes old.

That's fine Jim, I guess I'm just confused by all the hits on me even though I was only repeating what I thought was policy. I thought zombie threads were frowned upon by management. I thought starting a new thread would be more informative than bringing back a 7 year old thread but I guess not.

I use plain old Bullseye for .45.

We're lucky in that in the past decade or so we've seen many new powders. Unique used to be excellent powder for the .45 ACP. Ken Waters achieved excellent velocities with it. Yet, the fundamental question was not addressed: what .45 ACP velocity if optimum? Well, the .45 ACP earned its reputation with 230 grain ball at ~850 FPS.

Bullseye made the .45 ACP or vice versa. My dad used to load with Bullseye. It was a dirty powder.

I have used more than a few powders in the .45 ACP. I've settled on 2 excellent powers for the .45 ACP: Titegroup and Power Pistol. Both burn clean and flow darn near perfectly through a powder measure. Minimum powder charges are very pleasant to shoot.

When I do carry a .45 ACP where black bears and mountain lions are neighborhood block captains, I have probably 15 year-old both W-W & Fed factory 230 grain +P LE ammo. In other words, I don't need to load above slide cycling threshold.

Here's my point: I completely understand loyalty to an old friend. But your old friend will completely understand if new technology has nudged us to reassess. Is Bullseye still the definitive .45 ACP powder? Well, that's subjective. However, a lot of guys on the competitive circuit have switched to Titegroup.

It has taken me a long, long time to admit that Power Pistol might be better than Unique. Believe me that epiphany was confounding. I still have Unique; when it's gone, I won't buy more. But then again, I'm consolidating.

BTW, if I were loading high end .45 ACP rounds, I'd probably give a long, hard look at Longshot.

Rifle powder does not follow the above. I've tried a lot of never stuff, but I've yet to find one that I can say is better than H-4831.

Glad to see Longshot get a mention. My pet 45acp load for a 250 grain Nosler JHP is 7.0 grains over a WLP primer. 1.204" OAL. These are marketed for the long colt, but my XD just loves 'em!
