How much are you paying for Winchester primers in your area?
How much are you paying for Winchester primers in your area? I tried to buy some at a gun show here in the Indianapolis, IN area this weekend, but passed at $44.95/K. Last year at this same time I bought Winchester large rifle primers for $27.95, I know primer prices have risen due to the current scarcity but a $17.00 increase seemed excessive.

Just bought Winchester large pistol at 29/K from the shop at the local gun range. Last batch a few weeks ago were 24/K.
A few local gun shops have them marked as high as 59.95/K but they aren't moving at that price as best I can tell.
Recent gun show had quite a few being offered from several vendors. Price varied but was typically in the 34/K range with some as high as 40/K

I've been getting Winchester SP and LP for $29.95/k... I believe that these things are starting to come around, and you'll see the price gouging start to come down. I was at the gunshow in Greensboro, NC, this weekend and saw some Federal LP and SP for $36/k, and saw another vendor selling in the $45+ range. The ones at $36 were selling, the other ones were not.
I'll remember the people that tried to gouge when supply was tight, and will avoid them in the future... I'm familiar with supply and demand pricing, but there are a lot of reputable sellers out there that did not resort to that type of behavior. Good luck in your search!

If we stop purchasing primers at these outlandish prices and let the gougers eat their inventory the prices will come down. If we persist in purchasing at these outlandish prices then they will only increase prices further.

The very few I see are $35.95 P/K. Haven't seen any small pistol for nearly 6 months.

Here in Northern Arizona I have 3 sources. One is a nationally known gunsmith. 6o/K when available and they go fast. usually it's 6.00 per hundred with a 2 pack limit per day. Last week the local gun store had 5000 each of LP SP LR LP and MLR..52/K he sold out the LP and most of the other in 2 days.

Local shops have them priced at $31 to $35 per thousand.
Area gun shows have them at $45 to $75.
I'm well-stocked and I buy at neither source.

I bought the last 1,000 pack of Win Large Pistol at a local gun shop in Evansville for about $41.50 a month ago. I also bought 1,000 small pistol CCIs for $32.95 north east of the city. This shop had a good varity of Federal, Winchester and CCI all for under $40.

I think he was being sarcastic due to not having seen any for quite a while. I know I sure haven't. The only ones I have seen for quite some time are of foreign manufacture and I don't have any load data using them. These are going for over $50 too.

Just picked up 4k saturday here in the Altoona Pa area, cost was $29.00 per thousand. Then asked for some .380 ammo for my Mauser HSc and they had a nice selection. I think things are catching up.

Really? I say that because about the ONLY primers I see are Winchester. NO Remington, forget Federal. I did see two boxes of CCI last week; I remember because it's been SO long since I saw that brand. Some foreign (S&B? PP?) last week, but not much.
Fortunately for me, I still have a few cases stashed away.

$30/1000 but only CCI. No one has anything else. Still rationing, 1000/person.
Not a bad price considering. At some gun shows I have seen them for $40/1000.
Like many have said, still working from stock I had last year, long before the shortage.
Haven't even opened some cases yet.

If I'm traveling on business and pass a gun shop, I usually stop for a quick look-see, and primer brand availability is one thing I like to check on. I've found that primer availability is VERY geography-specific, dependent on: 1) What brand of primers are popular with shooters in a given area, and 2) What gun distributors are popular with the gun shops in any given locale.
Here, CCI is the most popular brand of pimer, followed by Winchester and Federal being a distant third. Remingtons are scarce. One semi-local local shop an hour away stocks mostly Winchester, because that's what they've been able to get the most of, historically. I recall them having nothing but Winchester primers back in the early 80s, and they've pretty much stuck with them. Another large dealer about 40 mins away has stocked mostly CCI, with some Remingtons now and again.

The limited number of pistol primers I have seen recently have been priced at $50.00+/1000. Rifle primers have been a little easier to find and are usually priced around $40.00/1000. I have not seen anyone selling less than 1000 at a time for quite awhile.
The last primers I bought were large rifle primers. I got them for $35.00/1000 at a gun show. The seller quoted everyone who asked $40.00/1000 (or more depending on their attitude). He sold them to me for less because I also bought a couple of pounds of powder. In fact, he offered to sell me another couple thousand primers at the same "discount" and commented that he could not sell powder if he did not have primers.
I thought his comment about not being able to sell powder if he did not have primers made a lot of sense. I would say 70% of the people who asked him for a price on primers would have bought all he had if they could have gotten them for $35.00/1000 and tried to resell them. Kind of like the guy who had the table full of Federal bulk pack .22 LR like I bought at Wal-Mart for $15.47/550 a few weeks before for the astoundingly good price of $30.00/550...or the even deeper "discount" of $75.00/1650 (three boxes).

I cannot say for certain, but it seems entirely possible. I believe Federal now runs the Lake City arsenal, so production is definitely with a military priority.

I thought once the "anointed one" was inaugurated all wars that we started would cease. If they have ceased, how come we still need to make ammo for the armed forces?
Oh, yeah, those wars he promised would end are still going on! Which is fine as long as the leaders aren't lying to us about stopping them!

NOTHING but 4 boxes of 209 primers at my local place this afternoon - and he receives his shipments on Tuesdays.
IF - again, IF - he received rifle or pistol primers, they were put aside for those smart enough to prepay and reserve them and/or his own retail reloading operation.

I have seen ZERO primers at any store around here for a while. If/when they get any in, they must be holding them for favorite customers. At the last gun show, my buddy paid $60 for 1,000 small pistol CCI's. I can't even find small rifle or large pistol, which are what I need.

Last gun show, Winchesters were 50/K. Powder Valley had them at 24/K not too long ago, but you have to figure in hazmat and shipping, too...

Winchester primers are still unavailable. CCI and Remington are available at about $4/100, limit 4 boxes. Remington was not stocked before the panic.
BTW, Winchester primers started getting scarce and prices started increasing in early '06 here in western Oregon. Well before the panic. Something about a couple of wars I think.

No we are just moving the troops from one area to the other/next.

Y'all are starting to make me worried. I'm down to about 12K Wolf small pistol primers that I "panic bought" @ $17.50/K last October. Hope prices get back to normal before I need to restock. ;D

I hope that I am wrong, but I don't think we'll ever see primer prices @ $17.50/K again. I am just guessing but I think reasonable will be somewhere around the $27.95/K I paid last year at this time for Winchester Large Rifle primers. I hope that prices will be better than that, but I am definately not holding my breath.

Wild Sports in Orangevale limits 1000 winchester small pistol primers per customer per day for $45 when they have some in-stock.
I bought a brick last month for $45.
I have decided to shop elsewhere in the future and wait until
I find a better price for primers.

I picked up some Federal LP primers locally today for $3.29 per 100 pk. He had plenty of primers and powders but no .45 bullets. My next stop had a limited supply of Winchester primers priced at $4.59 per 100 pk. He was picked over on bullets and powder but did have 1 box of Hornady 200 Gr lead bullets in .45.
I visited 5 different shops across the southern half of the state in the past two days. Only one had any real inventory of primers and powder. I found one facory loaded box of .45 Colt, and 1 box of bullets between the other three shops. So its still pretty slim pickens here. West-Southern KY.

I really messed up when I ordered a can of 231 and 1K WLPs from Cabelas. They only charge one $20 hazmat fee for both so they shipped the 231 and charged the fee, and put my WLPs on back order. The WLPs are $29. This was back in March. I talk to them every week with no results. I walked in a gun shop this week and there were some WLPs on the shelf for $49.95 per 1K. I feel like a fool, but I bought them because I haven't seen any in the Dallas area for at least a year. I will leave the other 1K on back order from Cabelas. I feel like a real moron for paying this much for primers, and feel worse for admitting that I did it.
