Default Good guns deserve good leather!

This may seem silly, or stupid, but I need help, again! I do not
know how to go about finding leather for my 32 DA's, or a 2" Safety Hammerless. Although these guns are considered antiques and
occasional shooters, they really deserve to be carried. I simply do not know how to go about finding holsters. I'm almost to the point of getting old cap pistol holsters.
Is there some way to find holsters, or is there anyone that could suggest a holster-maker to create new ones?
Trying auction sites is worthless as far as going by model, at least so far. I'm completely at a loss here.
ANY help would be appreciated! Good guns deserve good leather!

Default Gun Leather

I completely agree "good guns deserve good leather", not nylon or plastic. Here are a couple of suggestions toward finding the ones you need/want.

I have had pretty good luck finding good holsters at gun shows and estate sales. They are often thrown into a box with other leather goods like belts and rifle slings. Many good ones are not marked with a brand name and were handmade by saddle makers both here in the USA and elsewhere. Learn to recognize good quality and good condition. Both qualities are detected by feel as much as by sight.

You are right about using the search engines on auction sites not working. I find that sellers often don't know what they are selling and holsters were sometimes marked with code numbers that have no obvious connection to the firearm they were designed to fit. Search for "leather" only and then look for some good quality brand names. Some are: Bianchi, Brauer Brothers, Bucheimer, Colorado Saddlery, Desantis, Eubanks, and George Lawrence.

A second caution is that pictures don't represent size well. I have bought holsters that were far larger or smaller than I thought they were from the pictures I saw. No big problem though so long as they were good quality and in good shape because I just traded them for a better size at the next local gun show.

Lastly, I would make one more comment. The DA 32's you mentioned were intended to be "pocket guns" and were not carried in holsters. I collect S&W 32 Hand Ejectors that were more often carried in holsters. The small "I" or "J" frame sizes are the same and I suspect a holster that fits one would fit the other?

Good luck on your search and I will keep my eye open for one from here.

Larry

Larry; Thanks for the reply. Back when I had a real job/regular hours, I could go to all the shows in my area. Now I'm on-call 24/7, and can rarely get time to go anywhere. The next show that comes around here, I'll take a couple guns along, and learn my way through, as you suggest.
It's been frustrating, but I feel like I've at least got moral support from this forum.
Again, my thanks, TACC1.

I carry cut-off 38SW 'Lemon Squeezer' version #1 with 2" bbl in an 'Uncle Mikes' size 3 pocket holster. It is a pretty good fit and keeps the gun protected from whatever else may find its way into my pocket....keys, loose change etc. Not leather but I guess one could say 'Old meets new' since since the Lemon Squeezer dates from the late 1880's and the holster is made from materials that hadn't been invented then.

You may contact LOBOgunleather, (he posts on the forum), and have him make you one just as you want it. His prices are very reasonable and good turn around time. He has a web site, Lobo Gun Leather - Home

TACC1,

I was in the same boat as you trying to find leather for non-mainstream guns...so I learned how to make my own instead. You might try your hand at it...it's not that difficult to make a simple, functional holster. I can point in the right direction for tutorials, etc.

try high noon holsters.com. They make holsters for just about anything or can make one for you on the measurements supplied to them. They have excellent quality holsters and are located in Tarpon Springs, Fl. You can view the merchandise on line or order a catalog.

Thank you!
morgoth2008; Thanks, I have tried leather-working, and didn't like it, for some reason. 'Course, that was before I'd seen what real leatherwork looked like. I've seen really good stuff, here.

hobby-gunsmith: I'll check them out, ASAP.
