Default S&W 2nd/3rd issue (not sure)

Hello everyone,
I have a model 1 (either 2nd/3rd issue)
.22 rimfire I think, barrel is 3'' & 3/16th of an inch long,
which lifts up, rather than the normal ''down'' break.
(It has a box with a dark blue felt lining.)
BUT.......
the cylinder is missing!!!!!
Does anyone know where I might purchase one from??
Many thanks,
East England/Great Britain

Welcome to the Forum! Tell us the serial number on the bottom of the butt and we can tell you which type of cylinder would be correct for your revolver. ( If it's a second issue it will have a square butt, if it's a 3rd issue it will have a round bird's head type butt. The 2nd issue has a non-fluted cylinder and the 3rd issue has a fluted cylinder.) Dear Ed? Thank you so much for your reply, sorry it's taken me so long to reply, still trying to work out how to use site. Handle is round & serial No. is: 124486 (I think it's a 2 & not a 0 or a 9) The box it came in, has Francis Marquis Bte, 4 Boul Des Italiens, Paris, so I think my Dad must have brought it in Paris before the War? Not sure. Many thanks again, yours sincerely, England

England, You have a Model One, Third issue. The cylinder you need is a fluted 7 shot cylinder with the cylinder stop notches on the outer rear. The box you have is a Paris dealers box, as you have noted. Very unusual to still have that box. We would love to see a picture of it if you could post same. Finding a replacement cylinder won't be easy, however try Jerry Rodgers at [email protected] or Gun Parts Corp (Numrich) at [email protected] Any of the various books on S&Ws will show you a picture & description of a Model 1, 3rd issue, and you can see what the fluted cylinder looks like. If you do find a correctcylinder, be sure that doesn't make your gun illegal under British gun laws, as it will be a functioning .22RF revolver. The original cylinder may have been removed earlier and kept separate to avoid a conflict with the laws. Good Luck, Ed #15
