Default My first antique Smith & Wesson

I bought this little guy from a forum member on kind of whim. I'm not sure why, but I like it, so that's probably reason enough.

I know its a Model 1, Third Issue. I was just scaring the dogs with it shooting CB caps in the back yard.

I know its not great shakes compared to some of the beauties that get posted in this section, but here it is anyway.

Hi sigp, I think that some guns have character and that, plus the years of history, use and, well, mystery is what we find so compelling about them. I think your new S&W is cool, and I really like how you photographed it. Good luck with the collection

Classy looking little gun! Don't scare the critters too much.
A working firearm is a good thing, and that one was probably the cream of the crop, in its day.
Glad you got it; great pics, too. TACC1

Great little gun. I love these 3rd issues as they are usually bargains. I don't have one of my own yet but here's my Dads. It was his first handgun that was given to him by an old lady when he was around 10 years old. It was loaded when she gave it to him
It was her husband's who was a sea captain:

Nice little gun sigp. I love the antiques and the history that goes along with them.

I can see the "bug" lining up to bite you hard. The little antique's really do grow on you. Here's my #1 2nd issue. Like yours, hardly a mint copy, but mechanically sound and clean inside. It' amazing how a 143 year old mechanical device can still do what it was designed for and in a pinch defend your life.

Real S&W history since these can date before the Civil War. I have a few of them. Right not Cherry's has several on their website at prices around $300. I'm tempted again-----------
