Default .38 Double Action Third Model value?

I am looking at a trade where I would receive a .38 DA Third Model, original grips, nickel finish with 3 1/4" barrel, serial number in 166xxx range.

What is a reasonable value I could place in this firearm?

Hopefully I attached a couple photos.

Thanks in advance for any info.

It appears to be a refinished gun from the photos. Worth maybe $165 - $200. Not a collectable, but might be a cowboy shooter, if it's in good safe mechanical condition. I wouldn't allow more than $100 on it as a trade, myself. Ed #15

Utah 44. Got your email offering more photos. Thanks, but not really necessary. My opinion that it has been refinished is based on the two pics above, wherein you can see the outline of the side plate clearly and the rounded edges on the cylinder flutes, etc. All indicators of a prior buffing needed to apply the refinish. If the seller is representing the gun as original finish, then he is uninformed about S&Ws. If the work was done by S&W, then there will be a date code stamped on the left grip frame under the grips, such as " 6.33" meaning the work was done in June 1933. Good luck, Ed #15

Thanks for the information. I will probably pass on the trade. I thought it looked awful good for a gun that old.
