Default Wait time for s&w letter?

Just wondering, can anyone tell me what the average wait time is for a letter from Roy from S&W.

Sent my money and request back in mid April for my S&W 3rd Model 44 Russian DA.

Thanks

My last letter I ordered in the springtime and got it in late summer/early fall. I think summer may be a particularly busy time for Roy.

Join the S&W Collector's Assoc. I believe membership applications can still be down loaded from the link on the S&W Factory web page. There are members in the British Columbia region that you could contact for sponsership, or your local gun dealer, if he knows you, can sponser you. Mike Speers, Admin. Asst. for the S&WCA can also advise you on how to gain membership. His email is [email protected] Good Luck and welcome to the Forum. Ed #15

If it is mechanically sound, I wouldn't. It doesn't appear abused, just well-used, and is worth more in its current condition.

The gun is tight and has the cylinder that you can put 44 special.

Here in Canada there seems to be little to no lose in value if you re-finish. Unless it is some rare gun. I understand it is the opposite in the USA.The value here in Canada has to do more with antiques require no licensing and can be carried in the bush, 44 Russian's is highly sought after.

A better question might be..... Has anyone recieved one from Roy lately and when did you send in your request? This might give you a better idea of a turnaround time. IMHO

Can't remember who it was, but yesterday or the day before someone said here that he had just received a letter that he had requested in mid April. That feels about right to me, because Roy said around 10 days ago that he was working on letters that dated to the end of March. So progress is being made.

And if I had waited a couple of hours I could have answered this for myself. I just received three letters that I had requested about 10 weeks ago.

For what it's worth, Roy's letters are MUCH better than what you'll get from any other company, i.e. Colt, etc.

I mailed in a request for three guns today and my check for $150.
10 weeks isn't a bad wait at all!
My last Colt letter took exactly 120 days.

Default Wait Time

I sent a letter to S&W on April 14, 2010 and was told the wait time was 20 weeks. I got the Certification letter in today's mail (July 3, 2010) which was about 10 weeks.

$60 the first year, then $50 per year or $200 for 5 years.

Thanks for this thread - I just mailed the application for a letter this morning...I have spoken with Roy several years ago and he is a very interesting man and certainly in the right job.
I guess I have some waiting to do now...but I finally got it mailed!

(FWIW, Colt letters are $100 each.)

Actually Colt letters vary from $75-$300 depending on what you are lettering specifically.

Letter came yesterday, about 12 weeks.

I was a little disapointed as I had requested also if Roy could include the date of manufacture. All I got was the shipping date.

Reason was I had wanted something from Smith and Wesson confirming the gun was made before 1898.

I sent for three letters in late April/early May and received them Monday. For what its worth, I hear that Roy has been travelling a bit and is now back.

I submitted a letter request in April for a new model three .44 russian and received it 2 weeks ago. With Roy away at shows and on vacation, he is a little behind on the letters. Right now, the average is about 10 to 12 weeks. He is away at the SWCA convention at the present time. The frame on your gun was manufactured in 1899 which makes it an antique but it could have been assembled into the early 1900's. The letter gives you the date your gun was shipped and to what distributor when it left the factory. If you are collecting S&W guns, purchase the standard catalog of Smith and Wesson for most of the questions you may have regarding serial number range and dates.

Ron, I don't believe the date of manufacture can be determined as the factory recorded shipping dates by serial number but not the date the gun was built.
