Let's see your single shot Target Pistol wooden cases
Hello
I have a Three barrel set for my Second variation single shot Target Pistol and would like to make a carry case out of wood for it, to keep it in my safe and carry with me when I shoot it on the Range. I was wondering if anyone has got a Case that holds their single shot Target Pistol and barrels made up all ready or a Place to buy such a case ? I have barrels in 10" Length being my Olympic chamber .22 Barrel, an 8" .32 S&W caliber barrel and a 6" .22 Barrel. Thank's to all that reply with pictures...

Hi hammerdown,
Seems that no one has a cased Combo Set that they are willing to show. So I'll give it a try, here's a 1891 first model set for you to look at. It's an original matching numbered Combo Set, the wood box is not a factory original but as you can see it was made especially for this set. I've never seen a factory box for a complete set and I'm not sure if the factory offered them.
It has the small Pre-War screwdriver for adjusting the small screws on the sights and a set of very old ear plugs still in the original can that don't work very well, they were made in the 20's out of rubber that has long disintegrated. Also has three cleaning rods, one for each caliber, and both pair of grips are numbered to the gun.
Also has an old larger screwdriver that is not in the photo that is used for the barrel hinge screw for changing the barrels. I have only shot them at 50 foot on an indoor range and they all shot extremely well. Hope this gives you some idea of what can be done.

Hammerdown,
Please do save the picture for your reference in making one, it's not "Copyrighted" or anything like that. Have fun making it and be sure to let us see it when it's finished.
I often wondered how the factory sent out a complete Combo Set, never seen a complete set cased, have to guess that they just sent them out in cardboard boxs ?.

Thanks I will keep your picture for a Pattern to build a case for mine. I seem to remember seeing a few at the annual S&WCA meeting a couple of years ago that were in Leather bound cases. Regards, Hammerdown

WOW!!
Nice set you have H.M Pope ! You state both sets of grips are numbered to the gun but are the barrels numbered the same? They show very well in that case and it does make me wonder how they were shipped, now that you mention it. I do like the single shots and combo sets! Thanks for showing us that set and case.

This is a close up of the screw driver set in a cased combo set I have but I am not sure it is the original.

Here is a case that has a combo set. Again, I am not sure if this set came in the case or is just of the period. When the case is closed you can see the top is a dome shape to it starting about one inch inward.

Modelof1891,
Yes, everything is numbered to the frame the Single Shot barrels and the revolver barrel and of course the cylinder is numbered to the frame also.
That's an unusual type of case for your Single Shot, cant say I've ever seen one like it.
Your screwdriver is really nice, I've looked a long time for one of those.

Very nice sets Harry and Modelof! Thanks for posting them.
Here's a pic of a cased Pope Barrel for a singles shot along with a test target Harry shot! (This does not belong to me so I don't know the vintage.)
Also my friend Terry's Olympic Medal winning set. With modern engraving, grips and case.
