New Model #3 w/Shoulder Stock
I got to spend the last weekend gunshow here in Tucson with opoefc. He brought along another goodie for me to feast my eyes on and drool over. The pictures dont do it justice as the lighting was horrible. Ed relayed that the gun used to be owned by Bob Neal and was featured in the book....
here are a few pictures, it is mint
I wish I would have brought my camera back on Sunday as one Ed's old Army buddies from the days of the Indian Wars brought him in Schofield Serial #6 and sold it to him for a pittance... oh well maybe I can get some pictures of it in Yuma in a month.

What a nice specimen! I'm never going to own anything as nice as that, but I sure like looking at them when other people post them.
I continue to wonder about the legal status of handguns with detachable shoulder stocks under US law. Aren't they considered to be rifles with barrels less than 16" in length?
Somebody tried to explain this to me once and I didn't follow. If anyone here knows what the reality is, I'd appreciate if they would take another run at educating me. Is there some kind of antique or C&R exemption?

There was a ruling (70-517) made by the ATF in 1970 that removed handguns manufactured in or before 1898 accompanied by an attached or attachable shoulder stock, and not capable to shooting fixed shotgun shells from the requirement that they be registered.

Ed, that is superb, the pics of your specimens are few and far between. Love to see the Schofield you purchased when you have time to post a pic. Once again superb, real eye candy.

Dan is my resident photographer when ever I get together with him at a gunshow. The Yuma, Arizona show is in about 6 weeks and I'll bring the Schofield with me for Dan to photo & post on the Forum. He does a great job. I always try to dig out a goody for Dan to capture on film for the enjoyment of the Forum members. Ed.

The case was made, at a later date I believe, for a different shoulder stocked NM#3 S&W, however I put the Aussie Police gun & stock in the case, as it made a better home for the gun and presented the gun very well. Ed.
