Compare it to the pictures of Model 2 Armies on
Smith and Wesson Model 2 Army Revolver. It looks like a S&W in most of it's features, but it could be a foreign copy. Look carefully at the rear of the barrel below the breech for assembly marks, which would be a letter and a number, or two lettrs ,or two small numers stamped there, Also do the same for the cylinder. If it's a SA&W, you will see those assembly marks and they should match. If the 4876 stamped on the grip frame is the serial numbe, it shouldhave been stamped on the butt, however known Model 2s have been seen with the serial nuber onthe grip frame like your. The back side of the right grip panel should also have the serial number stamped there, if the grips are original. How many grooves does the bore have? It maybe a parts gun made up by a factory workman, for his own personal use, therefore no factory stampings. Regardless of what it is, value is not high - perhaps $600-$700 range. Ed.
