Here's the revolver:



















The .38 Double Action above is nickel plated and it's only flaking off in a couple places. The action is tight and works perfectly. The bore is really nice but has some slight discolorations/minor pitting that makes it not mint. I don't know what in the world the grips are, they're a sort of translucent red plastic and they don't fit at all. If this gun had a set of nice used grips or reproductions, it would look great. The barrel is pinned. I wonder why the side plate is discolored to a brown patina? I can't quite figure out which model this is either from the SCSW3. The serial number is 93230 on the butt, on the cylinder, and on the inside underneath of the top latch. Any more info would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like a .38 DA 2nd Model

As Terry says, it's a 2nd Model .38 DA, made around 1883. The side plate is discolored because it's probably a replacement from a no finish gun. It should be a good shooter for Cowboy action shooting. Look it up in the SDSW, 3rd edit., page 83. Ed.

I've got one very similar to that but mine is slightly different. It has the original grips still on it and also has a lanyard loop on the butt. The cylinder doesn't lock up though so I'm not sure it's save to shoot.
Overall condition is not bad for it's age though. I'll have to get some pics up. I'd love to hear some more info. on it.

I just got a pair from them, in black, that look good, but are going to require a bit of fitting.

BTW, REALLY nice looking revolver! I wonder if you could get just the side-plate nickelled?

RSBH44, oops, I'm sure you'll hear from others also; your revolver is not a Smith & Wesson - probably Belgium made and made to look like a Smith & Wesson and chambered for the .38 S&W cartridge. It is a nice gun; just not made by S&W.. Mike #283

Yeah Thanks Mike. I should have payed more attention to the wording on the top of the barrel. Can ya tell I'm a little green at this antique stuff. Oh well, it's still a neat little gun.

This is an interesting gun but it's not a Smith and Wesson. This is a foriegn copy of a Smith.
