Default Grip options for 3rd model 38 New Departure "lemon Squeezer"

I recently purchased an antique 38 New Departure 3rd model with mother of pearl grips. The gun is in great shape, but I would like to have another grip on it (keeping the old ones for originality). I would like something in the look and feel of the uncle mikes boot grips that are on small J frame guns. Preferably wood though... I have seen a few options in that style, like from altamont (which I think look great).

What are my options beyond starting from scratch?

are the dimensions of the small J frame close enough to only require shortening/slight fitting? Or are they different enough that they don't fit the shape of the frame at all?

Not long ago I purchased a 4th Model which had J-frame Herret's on it. They fit amazingly well.

Well, Purchased a cheap set of uncle mikes boot grips J frame from the net. We will see how much work needs to be done on them to make them work...

Zavikan,
I frame grips and the very first few years of J frame grips will fit the gun (though often not perfectly). A few years after they started producing the j frame they changed the frame size so that grips made after the middle 1950s do not fit without considerable refitting.
