This is my nephew's gun and only photo I have. It is a centerfire. Thinks it's a 32. Serial number is 4869. The writing on it says Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass. USA. Pat'd Jan 17&24.65, July 11.65, Aug 24.59, Jan 19 1875, Reissue July 25,1871. Some of the numbers are not real clear. Any info or comments would be appreciated.

I believe you have a 38 Single Action (Baby Russian) from 1876. Any writing on the backstrap? Also, measure the barrel from the cylinder face to the end of the barrel.

Its a baby russian but I never saw wooden grips on one before. So I googled it and found someone who posted a video of one exactly like it with those same style grips:

YouTube - 1877 SMITH & WESSON BABY RUSSIAN REVOLVER

I'm sure someone here will know more about it. Baby Russians aren't all that common. Nice gun.

I just noticed that the guy in the video said the subject gun was worth $250-$300. That estimate is way low on a gun in that kind of condition I think. Someone should try to contact the guy and make an offer

I'm no expert, but it might be a model 1.5. Is it a rimfire or centerfire?
Most model one and a halfs were chambered for a .32 rimfire cartridge. Dale

I believe that's a Baby Russian (.38 S&W).

bbgun,
As said in prior posts, it's a S&W 2nd Model, 1st Issue (aka. Baby Russian), .38 S&W. The 4" barrel is scarce. The stocks have been replaced. Mike #283
