Default newbie, with a question of course!

hello everyone! new to the forum, as well as new to collecting the antique smith and wessons. I have a few modern (1950 and newer) revolvers, and after purchasing the standard catalog of smith and wesson, 3rd edition became very interested in pre 1899 pistols. My question is, has anyone seen a da 32 2nd model , with a 3.5 inch barrel ? just bought one yesterday off auction arms. I talked with the man on the phone, all ser #s match, but he couldnt find the one on the barrel..it is definitely a 2nd model, but as far as i can find, 3.5 barrels werent available til the 3rd model.

Welcome to the forum. I checked some records in a proprietary data base and found a few .32 DA Second Models that were reported to have 3.5" barrels. Possibly the SCSW just neglected to note their existence.

I don't think I know where the serial number would be stamped on the barrel of a top-break S&W. Under the top strap?

i havent received it yet, but the scsw syas it is hard to find, but to locate the # on the latch and it should be to right of the latch, on the back of the barrel?...ser# puts it pretty much in the middle of production..hoping the barrel is not a 3rd or 4th model that has been swapped in.. dont think so as the finish is consistent across the gun, and not sure if that could even be done..i also found an original box for this gun, in great shape, but now i am concerned that if it is a 3.5 barrel, it wont fit in the box! that would be my luck...:/
