Default Need model and age estimates

Please help identify this double action, top break 38.
Last patent date on top of barrel looks like April 8, 1889.

Would this leather be of the correct vintage??
I think it's newer but you guys are the experts.

This side doesn't look too bad

It looks good in some respects

Just a little case color remains

Model identification and age estimates please.

It's currently on loan. We need a value estimate to make an offer. Opinions on age and value if you please

It is a .38 DA Third Model or Fourth Model. If the serial number is 322,701 or higher it is a Fourth Model and was made between 1895 and 1909. If lower, made before 1895. The finish looks to be original and very good. My guess on value is $300-400. I can't comment on the leather, but it could be worth plenty.

Thank you for the clarification

How high did the serial numbers progress in this series as this example is 517652

No doubt it's original nickel. Your value estimate comes as a surprise.

We would like to know more about the leather. Anyone??

Original application ??

I suspect the leather is somewhat newer, probably 1960s. I would guess application to be 3" J frame. JMHO.

The holster is a Model 21 "Blazer' made by S&W for a number of Single Action revovlers - Colt New Frintier, Dakota, High Standard, etc . circa late 1970s - thru 1980s. It's smooth Russet leather. Value in used condition about $10-$20 at most gun shows. Ed.

Yes, it cleaned up nicely. According to the Roy Jinks book the serial numbers went to 539000 for Fourth Models so yours is a fairly late production example.
