Default Tulsa gun show haul - Nov 2011

Oh my achin' feet! And poor abused wallet! And big dumb smile!

One of the great things about gun shows in general (and the Wanenmacher Tulsa show in particular) is seeing things that you didn't know existed, but immediately know you have to have. I picked up this interesting single shot conversion from SWCA member Robert Groenland.

It's a Model 3 revolver converted to single shot .22 rimfire. I had never seen such a thing before but Robert said he has seen and owned several - one of those things where when you know it exists, you start looking for it and finding it. Anyway I thought it was quite slick and bought it.

Obviously the recoil shield has been milled off and the hand and locking bolt parts for the cylinder have been removed, and the barrel has been lined. Less obvious is that the liner goes completely through the barrel and the solid block that replaces the cylinder, so there is no "cylinder" gap - it now truly is a pistol. Robert has shot it and says that it functions fine. The ejector mechanism still works as well.

With all the machining and such, the gun is completely devoid of markings but not unpleasantly so. All that remains is the serial number on the butt, and on the right ear of the barrel in the latch area (and they do match). Even all the patent dates on the rib are completely gone, but it's all very nicely done.

Also from Robert, I bought a Merwin Hulbert Pocket Army in .44-40. I'll post about it over at the MH Forum (although I suspect a lot more people would see it here.)
*edit* There is no longer a Merwin Hulbert Forum that I know of. It died when the effort to build new ones failed.

And not to leave out our pony friends, I also acquired an Official Police in .22LR, and will post about it over at the Colt Forum. Tulsa gun show haul - Nov 2011 | Colt Forum

All in all, a good show for me.

The .22RF conversion is interesting. I have a similar conversion made from an American Model. When S&W phased out the 3rd model single shots, as survey was made of known target shooters, asking what would they like for the 4th model single shot? Custom gunsmiths had been making .22RF single shot conversions of large frame handguns, at shooters requests, for some time. Many ideas were considered, including conversions of existing S&W revolver models, and it is believed some designs were made up as expirements. ( Neither my .22RF American, nor the above .22 NM#3 conversion are factory made expirementals). The eventual design placed into production was the .22RF Straightline single shot. Ed.

Anyone know what happened with the Merwin-Hulbert forum ? has it changed or is there a new one some where. I have several magnificent M&Hs I'd like to post in the forum.

That forum died several years ago when the plan to manufacture new Merwin Hulberts collapsed. Best place to post your guns is in this forum's Other Brands section, or in the Colt forum's Lounge section.
