Welcome to the Forum. Do you happen to have photos? If so, click on Post Reply under the messages, then Manage Attachments. You can browse your hard drive or link to a web address with your photos.

If not, what is the caliber, is the barrel hinged on the bottom or top of the frame or does the cylinder swing out, and are there any other letters or numbers stamped on it?

Welcome to the forum. Lots of experts here to help you, but first we will need more information. The best and easiest way to get help is to add photos of the gun. Difficult to tell with the information you provided, since S&W made several models of top-breaks in the late 1800s.

Without the pics, even a detailed description can still lead to a few model possibilities. What is the caliber, is there a round butt or square butt, wood grips or rubber, and the list ot details go on and on. Let me know if you need help posting pics.

Did you paste the link into the address box, or the photo itself? The link or location is what needs to go there.

The file size of the picture is probably too big. Try taking the picture with your camera set on the lowest quality, or use a program to make the file size smaller.
