Default info on this revolver?

I hope this is the right section for this post.

i was wondering someone could give me some info on this revolver. i don't really know much about it. i searched google and found "S&W double action". i'm not sure if that's the actual name of it or what. i've know it's a .32 cal and i believe it was made before 1892.

it has some surface rust and other than that it seems to be in good shape.

can someone tell me a little bit more about this gun?

any info would be apprectiated. thanks!

Welcome to the Forum. Its official name is a .32 Double Action, and yours seems to have the original finish and stocks, and looks much nicer than the average ones of this era (late 1800s - early 1900s). It uses the .32 S & W (also called Short), not the later .32 S & W Long.

I can't magnify the photos, but I see a serial number on the rear cylinder face - it should match the number on the bottom of the grip frame. If you can let us know the number (feel free to leave off the last 2 digits, like 123xx, if you prefer) we can tell you about when it left the factory. Hope this is helpful.

the number on the cylinder and bottom of the frame match. they are "61691". does anyone know about how much these are going for right now? i remember hearing someone tell me that they were worth a good amount a few years back but i'm not sure if that person knew what they were talking about.

The SN dates it to the mid-1880s. Someone here may be able to give you a more precise time.

Its value depends on its mechanical and cosmetic condition; if you are able to post more detailed photos that would be helpful, but somewhere in the $400-500 range would be my guess if it is as nice as it looks. Others have more experience in the antique S & W field and may give you a very different answer.

That's actually a .38 not a .32 and it's a second issue. Check this other recent thread which shows the difference: Model 1 1/2 topbreak I think?
Nice gun.
