Default Info please

Hi,
I am new to the forum, please forgive any mistakes.
Anyway, I have been given a family handgun that I would love to identify.
It IS Smith and Wesson, was told it was a .32 (????), hammerless, 5" barrel, 5 shot, blued, round butt, grip safety, and top break. Serial #121xxx. Several pat #: May 11, 80, Oct 2, 83.2, Aug 4, 86, Oct 11, 87, Feb 14, 88, Apr 9, 89, Jul 13, 90 (all stamped on top of barrel). Serial #'s match on grip and barrel.
Thank you in advance for any info you can provide.

Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like a 2nd Model Safety Hammerless, made shortly after the turn of the last century. It's also called the New Departure. Are you sure the barrel isn't 6"?

Welcome to the Forum. You have a .32 safety hammerless, 2nd model, shipped in late 1903. About 78,500 of this model were manufactured. A 5 inch barrel is uncommon, as most were 3 or 3.5 in. barrels. The barrel, if it's original to the gun, should be marked on the side with the caliber , ".32 S&W CTG" Nice family heirloom gun! Ed.
