s&w chrome hand gun--5 shot

I found this hand gun while cleaning my mother's house out ( she has just been put into a nursing home) would love to get some information on it. left side of the barrel it says .38 cal smith & wesson ctsl it is hammerless and holds 5 shots.

Welcome to the Forum. Your description covers a host of different models of S&W, as well as S&W copies. Can you post some pictures? if not, give us the serial number on the butt of the grip, barrel length, type of grips ( wood, plastic, etc) and exactly what stampings are on the barrel, cylinder & frame, especially patent dates, and any other numbers stamped ANYWHERE on the gun. Does the cylinder swing out to the left to reload. or does the barrel pivot down when the barrel latch is pulled up, to reload.? Ed.
