Default S & W third model russian

Hello.
I am new to the site and a new member. I bought my first antique Smith about 5 years ago and I really enjoy collecting new ones.
My last acquisition is a 3rd model russian. I took it to the range the other day and put about 20 rounds thru it. Great fun.
I now need to learn how to remove the cylinder without messing up the gun.

Thanks
Mike

Look at the rear of the cylinder and you should find a tab at the top which is the cylinder catch. The Third Model Russian has a large screw on the top strap. If you remove that screw you can slide back the cylinder catch and then remove the cylinder. Be careful when you slide the cylinder catch plate out, since it also holds the barrel catch assembly in place.

I use David Chicoine's website for parts and schematics for these old revolvers and they help identify the parts and where they go in case something pops out unexpectedly.

Thanks a lot for the reply and info. I will attempt the procedure but I will probably learn about the barrel catch as well.
best regards
Mike
