Default C&R license

Can someone steer me to a link or instructions on how to apply for a C&R license? I live in Ohio. Is it issued by my state?
BTW I looked for a Sticky on this. If it is there I missed it.

Thanks,
Mike

It's federal. It's a FEDERAL FIREARMS LICENSE! Your state has nothing to do with it. Go to the ATF website and do a search. It's a simple form and a $30 fee for 3 years. By the way, you posted it in the wrong catagory. Any gun that is a bona fide antique as defined by law doesn't need a license at all (manufactured prior to Jan 1, 1899).
The C&R is good for any gun 50 years old or older, plus a few newer guns that have been declared 'highly collectible' on a case-by-case basis.

Chris, not all top breaks are antique, so a C&R license is valid in this section too.

Man you guys are touchy down here in Antique land...
If I knew it was an FFL do you think I would have asked the question?
Also I own a top break that is not an Antique..from 1902. So I posted down here. Next time I will post in the HE Section where everyone isn't so snappy.

Mike, "everyone" here isn't "so snappy". Sometimes the written word doesn't convey the true intention of the poster. I usually re-read the response and find reason to assume that to be the case, when I have an option. I found this sight gave me some helpful advise when I appled for and obtained my C&R license. I had to do it twice to get it correct. Good luck with your application. JP

Reprise: I know that everyone in this section isn't "snappy" I have posted here a few times looking to find info about top breaks and have always been well informed when finished. It just caught me the wrong way and at that wrong time. This forum has been a plethora of info and help to me. One of the things I like about this forum is the way people help each other out and don't talk down to new people who aren't as versed in all things S&W. It is by far the best gun forum around.

It's pretty touchy, wouldn't let me through because I had spaces rather than dashes in my phone number.

John.

Get the latest issue of the shotgun news. There is always an ad there with the government website. Go there and apply, the BATF and E will send you all the forms.

Have you checked the instructions on how to use the form? (there is a "link" just under the banner at the top of the page.) One of the problems can be what Browser version you are running. The instruction page will show you your browser info.
If all else fails there is a phone number to call and order...

Good luck!!

You might be pleasantly surprised how helpful the people from the BATFE are. If I remember correctly, I had to call a number for the area I live in and the lady on the phone was very polite and very helpful.
Kinda surprised me calling a government agency and all.
Good luck.

If I recall correctly, you cannot submit on line from that form, it is intended you print it our, fill it out and sign it and submit the paper form.

One thing that confuses people; is the requirement to provide a copy to your Chief LEO - usually sheriff. Unlike most other ATF forms, there is no requirement, or even a place for the CLEO to sign it. When you sign the form you send to ATF, you are attesting that you have provided a copy to your CLEO. When I submitted mine they asked me what they were supposed to do with it. I said it was an unfunded mandate from the federal government to do ATF's background checks : ) I never heard anything & assume it got shredded. I never had to call about the FFL as it showed up on time. However, I've called NFA branch twice & both times had a positive experience. Good luck & enjoy.

When you request a application by phone, they mail you one that is a multi-part form, with instructions on one copy to sent to your Chief LEO for your community. When I sent mine in, a friend who is a Sgt. on the local police force advised me; "Getting a C&R?" They were well aware of what to do with it.
