Default Identify The S&W .38

This is a Smith And Wesson 38 Special from 1871.
The serial number on the frame matches the one on the cylinder.

Can anyone help identify this and possible guess a value?

A .38 Single Action, also called the Baby Russian (I think). Not up on values but someone else will be.

This is a 38 Single Action and probably a 2nd Model. Made in the 1877 - 1891 time period. It appears to have been refinished, and the grips are not original, so value would be lower. Est. $150 - $200.

The gun does not chamber .38 Special (which didn't come into existence until 1899), but .38 S&W. That's a shorter cartridge. In its original black powder loadings it is somewhat less powerful than the earliest .38 Special rounds.

This one Is Not called a 'Baby Russian'. Only the first model (yours is a second model) is referred to by that nickname. Also as mentioned, yours was produced after 1877. I have several firsts and seconds, plus a harder to find third model. I've shot them all sparingly with light smokeless rounds or all I want with black powder cartridges.
