Question Schofield Case Ejection (or lack of)

I recently picked up a Model 3 Schofield (reproduction). I was suprised to find the extractor does not pull spent cases completely clear of the clyinder.
I checked the length of the cases and they were less than the 1.109" case length specified in my reloading handbook.
Obviously, I could trim the case to get a better ejection, but would that be historically correct?

Who made the reproduction? I suspect a flaw in the extraction system. Probably easiest to shorten some cases and make it work. I wouldn't worry about historical correctness with a repro, unless match rules require .45 S&W ammo. only, and no reloads or altered cartridges allowed. Ed.

Default S&W Schofield

opoefc, it's a S&W reporduction (Model 3 Schofield - 2000), from their Performance Center.

I take it from your comment that the original Schofield ejectors pushed the empties completely out of the cylinder. Is that correct?

Thanks

The Schofield case is 1.1" as you noted. I have a Uberti Schofield and when the extractor is fully extended, it measures .875 from the face of the cylinder and 1" from the bottom of the extractor groove in the cylinder. I always make sure the gun is opened with the back of the cylinder in the down position and it always extracts the spent casings. A quick motion is needed to accomplish the full extraction of the cases.

The extraction system is not adjustable and if the extractor works, it should not stop short of full extension.

Ksquared, Glowe answered the question. A quick opening of the gun should throw the empties out, or flip it upside down. The Schofield Model 2000 is not a true reproduction of the Model 3 Schofields, but is a design and production all it's own, done in the Performance Center. Ed.
