Default S&W Model 1 1/2

I inherited a Model 1 1/2 s/n 532241. When was it made? Where was it first sold? Approximate value? I don' think it is shoot able even if I could find .32 rim fire (short or long). On closer inspection the barrel looks clear but with some wear.... No pits or rust.

Welcome to the Forum. S&W did not make a half million 32 rimfire Model 1 1/s, so something is not quite right here. If you could post a picture or review your serial number, we can help you out. THe Model 1 1/2 rimfire was a tip-up revolver and the Model 1 1/2 32 centerfire was a top-break, if that helps.

That is a 1 1/2 New Model, 2nd Issue made between 1868 and 1875 in the SN range of 26301-127100. What length barrel -- a 3 1/2" round barrel was standard, 2 1/2" round barrel rare? Is it stamped 2nd Quality?

Again, pictures are your friend.

That is a better number. Your revolver would have shipped around 1870 or 1871. Condition is hard to tell, but the stocks are in great condition if they have original finish, but the bluing looks somewhat worn. I would say $350 is a ballpark estimate of value.

Online gun and vintage ammo sites often have 32 rimfire ammunition. Navy Arms manufactured large quantities of this ammo around 1990 and it can be found at these auction sites, plus most 1930s-1940s 32 rimfire ammo will still function just fine. The cost for 50 in a non-collector box is selling for $70+/= for 50 rounds. It is expensive, but I usually shoot my old tip-ups no more than once or twice a year, so even 50 rounds would last you a few years if shot modestly.

.32 RF seems to have nearly vanished except for antique "collectable" ammo the cost of which will make your eyes water.

I just got a No 2, Smith, and havae been looking for ammo with no success. If I should find any, I will post here.

I saw some in an auction about 2 years ago, and I bid up to $60 for a box, and it eventually went for $75. I guess I don't want to shoot my 1 1/2's that bad.
