Help With My Oldest S&W
I have a top-break DA 38 S&W five-shot with a 3-1/4 inch barrel. The trigger guard has sort of a reverse arch at the rear and the cylinder rotates clockwise! There is what appears to be a small removable side plate on the left side centered on the hammer pivot. The grip is almost a round butt, almost like a saw handle. Black plastic/bakelite grips with a diamond at the screw and S&W in a circle at the top. The old nickel plate makes it hard, but I think the SN is 146530. It appears that the front and rear sight, the inner frame hinge, and the trigger guard are blued and the hammer and trigger might be case-hardened. I'd appreciate any help about the proper model designation and manufacture date.

Been looking around. Except for condition, my revolver is exactly the same as one shown in another post. It is the same as the one shown by delcrossv in reply #8, 7:22Pm, 01-24-2021, in the post 'Show Your Oldest Top-Break S&W Revolver' started by mrcvs. delcrossv states his was shipped 11/1892, but gives no further info.

You apparently have a .38DA revolver. We can tell you the model if you post the serial number. Ed

".. but I think the SN is 146530." You have a .38 Double Action, 3rd Model. Serial numbers ranged from 119,001 to 322,700.

Thanks also to delcrossv who PM'd me with more info about the model we both own. He computes mine was probably shipped about six years prior to his.
