S&W 38 Top Break Broken lock/latch
Looking for some help. I just inherited a S&W 38 top break hammer less and I believe its a 4th model?? serial# 146674. the lock or latch is broken in half. Does anyone have a spare lock/latch for sale or know where i might be able to find one. This pistol belonged to my uncle who was a U.S. Marshall and I would like to fix it and pass it down to one of the kids. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Forum. There's a link to a list of S&W parts suppliers on this Forum that might have the part(s) you need. Ed.

You should be looking for parts to fit a 38 Safety Hammerless, 4th Model. The parts suppliers are becoming few and far between. I would call Jack First first, since he seems to have the best inventory for S&W. Another option is to look for a parts gun. Buy one cheaply enough and you should have lots of future parts left over.

Just checked another source and it might be your lucky day.

Thank you very much guys for the welcome. And Thank you Gary SWCA #2515 I went to the site that you suggested at Numrich and they had the part (Barryl Catch) new in stock. Ordered the part with no problems. Guys thanks again and because of you it has been an easy task to repair a family heirloom to pass down to the kids. Sure its not in the greatest shape or worth a great deal but its something that is solid and can be held in their hands and they can say this was passed down to me.

And please document everything that you remember about the revolver and the family member that it is associated with, including any superfluous rumors ('only had a thumb on the left hand') as that may prove to be key to the real story. Mike #283
