Hello all, I have a chance to pick this up, but I wanted to see if anyone recognizes the model. All I have are the pictures so far. Any information is greatly appreciated, thank you all in advance.

Welcome! It is a .32 or .38 S & W caliber top break, but more likely an Iver Johnson or Harrington & Richardson brand. A Schofield is a much larger .45 of similar design, but single action.

A refinished gun of this vintage (with a shortened barrel and replacement front sight) has value only as a shooting, as opposed to a collecting gun. Hope this is helpful.

It's a chopped and re-finished .38 DA, by appearance. Non-original grips. If you pick it up, make sure you pick it up CHEAP. It's not worth much. I wouldn't want it at any price.

Why would you think it's a Schofield? It's not even close.

Ya know what , that thing is interesting enough to buy if I found it for under $150.

Schofield????? Where did you get the idea it's a Schofield? it's a poor refinish of a chop job small frame top break, but cute in it's own way. If it shoots OK, $100 would be tops. Ed.

By the way, welcome to the forum. S&W made several models of top-break revolvers. Schofield was just one of the more famous models. To an untrained eye, mistakes in identification are easy. Does that thing shoot? Are there any markings on it?

I think you are right on this one. Looking at the trigger, it does not look like any S&W 38 DA. Also, there appears to be some type of lever projecting into the opening of the trigger guard. Anyone have an idea of the purpose? Don't know what brand, but it is not a S&W.

My guess is it that is a trigger stop.

That projection behind the trigger is the single action sear. I know that IJ used one like that, but so did other makers of early DA revolvers, including Webley on their RIC models. The single action sear on the early S&W double actions was also separate and functioned the same way, but didn't extend into the trigger guard.

I ended up passing on the weapon. I instead purchased a 15-3 Combat Masterpiece, nickel plated w/ 2" barrel, and it is very nice.

Congrats ! You went from a Yugo to a Cadillac with that choice! Ed.
