Default Surprising Auction Results

I had bookmarked several S&Ws on a recent California Auction, but forgot to attend. I went back and reviewed the items I was interested in and found some really low results. I found 4 top-breaks and 4 HEs (see S&W Hand Ejectors: 1896 to 1961) that were of interest. Don't know the reasons, but maybe the holiday season lowered the realized prices.

The following items were of particular interest to me:

Perfected 4" went for $125
32 Hammerless went for $275
Perfected 6" went for $160
Perfected 3 1/4" went for $200

Probably a good thing I forgot the auction since it would have cost me too much money!

I don't know...maybe not that surprising! Some of the earlier Smith & Wessons go surprisingly low. I guess the younger generations are more interested in a plastic AR-15 than an antique Smith & Wesson.

I've always wanted a Perfected for some reason. There's one on not-an-auction-site-but-will-still-get-my-hand-slapped-if-I-link-to-it in better shape for $700.00, but I guess I don't want one that much.

I sure would have bought that 3 1/4 one in a heartbeat for that price.

Many years ago my BIL bid $50 on a pair of Lady Derringers and no one else bid - so he won - looks something like this:

Many years ago , you were lucky to get $50 for a pair of those Colt Deringers. They were modern FFL guns and required double cost & paperwork to transfer them, plus if you were in a jurisdiction that allowed only one gun a month transfer, you couldn't deliver a pair and it was a hassle to buy or sell them. I don't think there's a rule on this Forum about posting and auction house name and results after the sale is over, but I could be wrong. Ed.

that was the buy in that group

The post 1900 small caliber stuff does not seem to sell for much in Dallas - most of the DA models I see at shows here sell cheap but then again most are conditioned like #1 and #3above.

Last year at one of the big shows I picked up a 95% nickel early .32 SA model - 3 digit serial # and w/out the monogram grips for only $300.

My guess is that it was the same buyer on all of those. I never see perfected models go that cheap, but condition was not there.
Could be like some auctions where they drop the hammer early in the bidding to get our attention.
That really hurts when it is your gun being auctioned!!!!
