S&W 32 Break Open
Just got this S&W from my uncle. Can anyone provide me some history about this model? Serial # 84047. Same number in cylinder.

It's a .32 Double Action, 4th model. Same serial number should be on the latch and on the back of the barrel between the 'ears" and on the back side of the right grip panel, if the grips are original to the gun. Many thousands of this model were made in the last 20 yrs of the 19th century. The history of your gun , insofar as to when it was shipped, to whom & where, can be obtained by getting a factory historical letter from Roy Jinks, Factory Historian. There a link on this Forum to the application form for a factory letter. Cost is $50. Ed.

Michael, Your talking about the .32 Safety Hammerless model. Get a copy of the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd edit" by Supica & Nahas. About $20 bucks on Amazon used books. It will tell you all about that model. Price ranges will go for $20 for a junker missing parts to one that 100% original in it's original box for around $1,000 t0 $10,000 depending on whether it has some rare features, is engraved or has historical ownerships, etc. Ed.

I buy some basket case break tops both DA and safety hammerless. I have paid anywhere from $30 to $100 for ones in bad shape. I fix them up for my personal use. You can find a lot of parts especially at Numrich. Some of the springs are hard to find. I have used springs from an AR15 and a ball point pen! Gun broker sells a lot of the ones you are looking for.
