Default Husbands birthday

My husbands birthday is coming up and I am looking for a 1911 for the guy who has every gun you can think of.
He has been looking for a old one for his collection.

I am a Bullseye shooter not a collector. I know my post is very brief. But had to pick a forum he does not belong to.

You are probably in the wrong part of the Forum to discuss 1911s. There are many, many calibers, manufacturers, and variations of Government Model pistols. Just what caliber and how much do you wish to spend? They go from under $500 to "The sky is the limit," and can be found in .22, 9mm, .38 Super, .40 S&W, 10mm, and .45 ACP, and a few more custom calibers like .400 Cor-Bon and 9X23mm Winchester. And then there are original M1911 and M1911A1 military pistols from WWI and WWII. Those can get costly.

Default Looking For An Old One:

If your husband is looking for an old Model 1911, he's probably looking for a stock military model or at least a Colt commercial "government model." These were virtually all made in .45 ACP.

The really old one is called the Model 1911 while the more improved version, designed to correct some of the shortcomings of the Model 1911 is called the Model 1911A1, which, in my opinion, is preferable to the Model 1911.

There is a 1911 forum you may consult.

Take some green, cut a 1911 ad out of a magazine, fold the ad in half wrapping up the green money. Enjoy the search with him while he seeks out that perfect 1911 that he really wants.

In my opinion, it can't get any better to get seed money for the "missing" gun, permission to buy, and some one to enjoy the shopping/hunting during the search.

It's my birthday tomorrow...and I'm from Texas. I had to make sure my wife wasn't surprising me with something....no such luck.

If you intend to purchase an "original" 1911 military in original condition as a "collector", be prepared to spend over $2K.

There were three principal manufacturers of WWI-era Model 1911s, and five makers of 1911A1s during WWII (counting Singer). Price will depend to a great extent upon which maker (Remington Rand made the most during WWII), and whether it is original. It is not at all unusual to find military .45s made up of a conglomeration of components, and mismatched guns will not bring a high price. Unless you REALLY know your 1911s and 1911A1s well, you can easily get taken for an expensive ride.
