Model 1 1/2 First Issue VS .32 Rim Fire Short Snap Caps!
I have a Model 1 1/2 First Issue .32 Rim Fire Short. Apparently, the standard .32 snaps are a little larger ( won't fit) then the .32 Rim Fire Short cartridges ( which must be smaller). Anyone have any suggestions?

That would be correct. The Rimfire case was .317", as was the bullet. The bullet was a "heeled" bullet where the part of the bullet inside the case was smaller in diameter than the exposed part so the bullet and case were basically the same diameter. The current .32 "center fire" are .339" case diameter, and the bullet is .313", as the bullet is a consistent diameter and all of it fits into the larger case. The only (American) round with a heeled bullet currently is the .22 RF.

I save and use empty cases to dry fire any of my 32 rimfire revolvers. Of course, that means you would need to have the live rounds in the first place. If you search online, you can find vintage 32 rimfire Remington or Winchester made up into the early 1950s. These rounds normally still function and are not high priced. You can also find 32 rf blanks at even lower prices that will work just as well.
One more option that I forgot would be to purchase the reloadable 32 rimfire cases from Dixie Gunworks or other sites that use a 22 blank as a primer.

Many cartridge collectors (like me) will have some, and I am sure you can find some on Gun Broker, etc. But shipping cost is sort of a killer, must go UPS. Not terribly unusual to find some at any decent medium to large gun show where there are often some antique ammo vendors. Back before WWII, there were also various rifles made which were chambered in .32 RF, I even had one, a Stevens single shot.

Scrooge here. Do I want to shoot rimfire collectibles at $1-$3 each? What does one do if the hammer breaks? Too many "ifs" for me. I admit I used to shoot a Number 2 Army with .32RF Shorts but that was 50 years ago.

Stuff can happen Mike, but it has not happened to me yet. If I were worried about breaking something all the time, things would get quite boring around here. I was lucky in ordering 2 cases of 32 rimfire just before they quit making the Navy Arms stuff. I am down to 8 boxes, so am now metering my shooting. In addition to my tip-ups, I like shooting an old 32 rimfire rolling block.
BTW - 32 rimfire is getting quite pricey now, You are right on the price - now going for $3 a round!
