Default Loading for and shooting an original 1st Model Schofield

I would very much like to shoot my original 1875 Schofield and wondered if any of you who own them shoot them and if so what smokeless loads you have worked up for them that are safe?

I typically use TRAIL BOSS smokeless powder for my early Colt SAA's.

Thanks for your input!

Tom

For shooting purposes, you would be much better off looking for one of the newer Schofield replicas. The original Schofield military caliber was the .45 S&W (or .45 Schofield), which was a little shorter than the .45 Colt cartridge. Any starting load for .45 Colt would be OK, preferably with a 200 grain lead bullet.
