We need more information and I will post pics if you send them to me.

Also the NRA has insurance with membership.
Plus riders if you need more in dollar value. Well worth looking at.

Go to advanced settings when posting.
Then the paper clip for attachments.
There it will let you download photos.
After closing the window click the drop down on the attachment symbol.
Good luck.

Some real experts on here will recognize exactly which top break model that is but back when I was actively shooting cowboy action those S&W "pocket pistols" were never more than a few hundred dollars, maybe in great shape like yours they'd reach 500 bucks. Today, things are a little crazier price-wise but I'm guessing top dollar is a grand. however, since I am uncertain of the precise model, that's all guesswork. Tomorrow someone will know for sure.

It's doubtful that it's a gun that needs to be listed on an insurance policy unless it's part of a large group of guns that they asked you to be specific about.

It does appear to be refinished so that'll hurt the value some.

Welcome! This is a .38 Double Action, produced from about 1880 - 1910; from your other post on the same gun () it dates to about 1897. As jsfricks mentioned it has been renickled, so if it is mechanically sound an insured value of $250 would suffice. Hope this is helpful.

Welcome to the Forum. I would not bother with insurance - the revolver is definitely refinished and done improperly as well. You can buy these in worn and working condition all day for under $200 if you spend a little time searching the Internet. You might be able to find someone who will buy that gun at a higher price, but sites like GB are full of repeat listed 38 DAs that never sell because the reserves are set too high.

Modern factory ammo will work just fine in these top-breaks, so take it out to the range and have some fun shooting.

Agreed that it is refinished, as evidenced by the highly visible edges of the sideplate on the left side. When original this seam is perfectly flush. Also the trigger guard should be blue, and the trigger casehardened like the hammer. These are all hallmarks of a sloppy refinsh and kills collector value, so it has value only as a shooter. Yeah, couple of hundred bucks, tops.

Also note that the ammunition for this gun would be .38 S&W, NOT .38 S&W Special. Common .38 Special will not fit in this gun, the dimensions are different - .38 S&W has a shorter case. .38 S&W is a little harder to find and more expensive but it's not like you're going to be shooting a lot of it.

If you have a standard homeowners insurance policy, your agent should know that the Sporting Goods & collectables coverages clauses cover misc. item up to a set limit, usually $500 to $1500 depending on the company that wrote the policy for you, and that will cover the theft, or damage from attempted theft, of your .38 S&W revolver's value, which is in the $150-$175 dollar range. Howdy

As stated, these are not very valuable. I paid $200 for this 3rd Model 38 Double Action a few years ago. This one is a bit worn, but this is what they are supposed to look like when not over polished and refinished.
