Need 1 1/2 CF Screw Dimensions!
I am in need of dimensions for the rear sideplate screw on a Model 1 ½ .32 Single Action centerfire. It is not the screw in the center of the plate, but rather the one closest to the stocks. I need the dimensions so that I can have a replacement made. Any help is appreciated!

OK - I will give it a try. The overall length is .567". The non-thread shaft is .103". The head is .171". The head is .070" thick. Head has a slight dome and slot is .035" wide and .035" deep. There are 8 full threads in a distance of .160". Since the threaded end of the screw protrudes from the opposite side of the frame, it is domed. I would put 10 threads on the shaft to make sure that it will tighten correctly and not run out of threads. BTW = it is the same screw as on a 38 SA spur trigger, except shorter overall length.

If I measured correctly, the pitch calculates out to 50 tpi. Now that may be 48 to 52, but anything that close should work. Afterall, it is not doing much.
I have not found any references to tpi for these old revolvers, but it sure would be nice to have it documented somewhere.

That would be close to a metric M2.50 x .45 screw. But I don't know where you could find one of those to determine if it would fit.

Here are the measurements from "Gunsmithing the Guns of the Old West". The book says that the following are for the sideplate, rear SA & ND.
Head width .170, Head height .070, slot width .032, slot depth .040,
Thread major dia. .102, thread length .140, overall length .215,
Thread 46TPI-RH.
The overall length given sounds like a screw that didn't go all the way through. It's my understanding that S&W didn't use standard thread pitch on many of their screws, but I would try, 4-40, 4-48, 3-48 and 3-56. The 4's are a little over and the 3's are a little under, but they might just work. The other choice is to see if someone can make something up....

I believe glowe's length of . 567" is about right. A .215" length would be shorter than 1/4" and incorrect. I think the OA length published is a typo.

The frame is about a half inch wide and the screw goes all the way through, so it can not be only a quarter inch long. The 46 tip could well be correct. It is hard to estimate a tip with a screw that only has 8 threads on it. I would go with the 46 tip if a screw needs to be made.

I answered with my measurements in your "need a 1 1/2 screw" thread, but to keep all the dimensions in one place here they are again;
OK here it goes. These measurements are made with my reloading dial caliper. The total length is .577 the length of the threaded part of the shaft is .182. The diameter of the head is .1705. the thickness of the head is .074. the diameter of the unthreaded shaft is .102 and the outer diameter if the thread is also .102. As best as I can measure it the thread to thread didstance is .0235. Picture is attached. I hope this helps
