Default Safety Hammerless 38 with Pearl grips

My friend inherited this Safety Hammerless in 38 S&W. The mechanics are excellent, which is a nice plus. Of course the finish is in fairly poor shape.

The Mother-of-pearl grips with S&W medalions seem to me to be factory originals.

The serial number is 205933

He will take this to a gun show in a couple weeks to sell it. These topbreaks are not my area of expertise, so I am wondering what you all think would be a fair price range to ask?

They made lots of these revolvers and the condition is not great, so little interest from collectors. Without the pearl stocks, maybe a $200 gun. Also, it was shipped around 1908, so not an antique. The pearl stocks by themselves are worth what the gun is worth. If they were in perfect shape, they would probably sell for $250 or maybe more.

The question is whether the stocks are worth more on the gun or separate. Personally, I think you would get more out of the gun/stocks if sold separately, unless the stocks were numbered to the gun.

Thanks Gary...I think he would easily sell it for $300 or so, grips and all. I would hate to remove such well fitting grips from the gun anyhow. Besides, removing the grips would require some kind of replacements in order to actually sell the gun.

Why don't you list if for him on the forum. He might get a lot more than he would trying to sell at a gun show. A dealer wouldn't give him more than probably $150 for it as it is .

Good idea. I will check with the owner and post on the "guns for sale" section. If it does not move, the gun show is only in a couple weeks.
