I received the factory letter from Smith and Wesson on the .44 Double Action first model. It appears to have been shipped to Sears and Roebuck in Chicago in 1899. Not to thrilling but is sure is nice to have the letter. Thanks to all on ID and thanks to Mr. Jinks!
I don't know about that,but I have a 44/40 Frontier that shipped to Montgomery Wards in Chicago in December 1900. Fortunately I know the history of who that bought it and it makes sense that it was a "mail-order" gun. They were homesteading on the Montana/Dakota border at the time. Don't imagine there were too many gun stores in the area at that time.....
My DA Frontier 44/40 with pearls was also shipped from S&W to Sears Roebuck 14 July 1899. It ended up in Oklahoma Territory in a P.O. robbery 1902. Smith & Wesson letter 14 January 1994. Henri.......
