Civil War era Model 2 Army
One for Independence Day. This one was shipped December 28 1861 just as the Civil War was heating up. It was shipped to Cooper & Pond in New York, NY.
At some point in it's life it was converted to 22 caliber and the barrel was cut to 4 3/4 inches. It will chamber a 22 LR but I have only used CB, BB and shorts in it.
For it's obvious lack of finish, it locks up tight and shoots well. Note the holster made from an old shoe. I wonder where it has been?

Interesting.
It appears that the rod was turned down for the smaller size cases?

I doubt that any 22 would be able to damage that frame or barrel, but best keeping with low velocity rounds. I like the concept of a 22 Model 2, but the execution was not top notch. I wonder what was going on with the base of the barrel in the frame? Looks like the gunsmith hammered the end of the 22 sleeve until it tightened up??? An original 2 pin would have been quite a prize, but you do have a rarity there.

A person could make a collection of Model 2 Armies that have been altered, converted, remade, modified, etc.
I've had various ones over the years that were .22Rf, .30 & .32 Teat Fire, .32 Pin Fire. .38 Rim Fire, and .32 CF and maybe a few other conversions I don't recall now. When .32 RF became some what obsolete and difficult to find, gun owners of Model 2s didn't let that stop them from finding a way to keep their guns shooting. Ed.

Interesting gun. Thanks for posting.
Ed, Teat Fire and Pin Fire .32s sound like a couple of strange conversions for a rimfire pistol. Do you have any idea why someone would have converted a RF to Teat or Pin fire? I would think those cartridges would be harder to find than 32 RF?
