S&W Perfected Target stocks?
I ran across a set of stocks today that look nearly like the stocks I've seen pictures of on S&W Perfected Target pistols.
The difference was, they were smooth with no checkering.
Was this the work of bubba or did S&W make smooth stocks of this type as well?
Thanks.

I have never seen smooth target stocks for a single shot pistol. Standard checkered target stocks, however, can be found on 22/32 Heavy Frame Target revolvers, and other I frame revolvers of the era in both target guns, or special order on fixed sight guns.
I have also not seen any smooth target stocks available in catalogs. Is it possible that such stocks could have come from the S&W factory - maybe??

Smooth target stocks, very similar in style to S&W checkered stocks, were standard on Iver Johnson, Hopkins & Allen & some H&R revolvers, so that's probably what you saw. Ed.

Sounds entirely possible. I'll have to find some IJ, H&A and H&R pictures and compare them with my memory.

An old thread but another set of smooth target stocks with the same question . . . this time with pictures.
Are these smooth target stocks S&W for a Third Model (Perfected) Single Shot . . . or one for a brand X? They generally fit an "I" grip frame but don't have that S&W factory fit to them.

Russ, Those are the styles I mention above. Most likely Hopkins & Allen. Ed.

Iver Johnson target stocks can show simple checkering or none, but will look like the set on my 22 Super Shot Sealed 8. They can be altered to fit on a S&W by removing the bottom pin and threading the butt for the IJ stock screw. I have seen I frame S&Ws with these threaded holes in the butt.

These smooth Single Shot stocks are on my Club Gun serial number 0XXX.
The are numbered to serial number 0XXX. Shipped to Ed Lawrence, no address listed, March 23, 1910. March 23 is my birthday. I figure Smith & Wesson made me a birthday present 42 years early.

These are better pictures of both the stocks and the hand checked trigger.

I had a picture of another pair of stocks, but can't find it. I took the picture at a show years ago.
