Default Safety Hammerless worth $40?

I have $40 in trade into this. Don't know much about it other than it is a 1st model safety hammerless (aka Lemon Squeezer) It has a 3 1/2" barrel and a 5 digit serial # 314XX and a last pat. date of "Aug 4 85". It functions ok, grips have turned chocolate brown, barrel still shows distinct land and grooves although worn. What is the function of the little rod you depress in front of the rear sight??
I have no idea of value but thought this would be the place to get a ballpark figure.

Jim, your 32 Safety, 1st Model Hammerless revolver, would have shipped from the factory around 1892. It appears to have a majority of original finish and if functioning properly could be worth $200. The small lever on the top strap lifts the cylinder retainer so that cylinder can be screwed off from the barrel assembly for cleaning. Push down and hold it down until you have completely removed the cylinder or you put spiral scratched on the cylinder.

Push and hold it while reassembling also or the results will be the same.
