You have a 32 double action 4th model made apx 1900. As for value in that condition if everything functions and all numbers match, about $300 tops.

I believe it's a .38.

It is actually a 32 DA, but it would have shipped around 1895. The gun has little collector value due to its loss of finish and would probably sell for $150 to $200.

Folks, it's a .38 Double Action, Third Model. Look at the cylinder length in relationship to the trigger guard.

I vote with Mr. Maher, based on the length of the cylinder flutes, the ratio of cylinder diameter to length, and the relationship of the front of the cylinder to the front of the trigger guard.

[QUOTE=Skeetr57;138818423]I vote with Mr. Maher, based on the length of the cylinder flutes . . .
You are right - guess the rust threw me off - 38 S&W it is. A 38 DA with that serial number would have shipped around 1887-1888.
I was always under the impression that the 32 cylinder was about the same diameter as it is long, but after comparing both the 32 and the 38 cylinders, they both look square. However, the 32 cylinder measures 1.13" dia and .92" long, while the 38 cylinder is 1.31" dia and 1.21" long, so neither are square.

The flutes are the give away on the .32's. They're really stubby.
