I have a .32 Safety Hammerless that I believe is a first model. I would like to know what year it was made and how much it is worth in its current shape. The serial number looks to be 22,989. Thanks for any info/help.
Welcome! You have the ID correct, however pre-WW II S & W revolvers had their serial numbers stamped to be read with the muzzle pointing right. By doing a headstand () I think I see 83833, which puts it in the late 1890s.
If the finish is original (difficult to tell with the photos), the bore is not heavily pitted, and it is mechanically sound, I would guess it is worth about $200-250. Hope this is helpful.
Welcome to the Forum. That would be a 32 Safety, 1st Model, but I cannot figure out the serial number. I am seeing maybe 68633. The first number does not look the same as the second which I think is an "8"??
The number is important, since you either have a 88XXX, which is a modern firearm (1900), or 68XXX, which would be an antique (1896).
Forgot to mention that the serial number is also stamped under the rear top strap just behind the cylinder but very small numbers.

Reason: Added comtent
A market value on any firearm cannot be determined or even guessed without several good clear photographs. And, even then is a guess without inspection the internals. The average 32 Safety in normal used condition with most of the bluing still left may be worth in the $200 range.
