S&W .32 Lemon Squeezer trigger job
Hi! I think the trigger spring just broke when dry firing my revolver. How do I remove the trigger guard to take out the trigger en replace the spring? The revolver is a model 1, 1890

Welcome to the Forum. If you have strong hands, you can compress the guard from back to front and lift the back out first. The trigger guard is like a big spring and is only held in place by the bow pushing the front and rear into retaining slots. Try to watch which way the spring is set in place and which way is up, so you can match the new spring. These can be tricky to put in and get the trigger guard back in place without moving the spring, but you should be able to get it back together. On stubborn guns, I have used a large wood dowel between the butt-frame and the rear of the trigger guard to pry it forward, but that is normally on larger frame guns.

Gary, would a small C Clamp work? I have used some of that rubber handle coating on C Clamp heads for non-marring. I've never tried to disassemble any of my break tops, and don't shoot but 1 or 2 and very very sparingly.

Large frame 44s are the hardest to get off and a 6" Irwin Quick Grip works well if you can get it so it will not slip off.

I clamp the frame in a padded vise, trigger guard up. Leave just enough room between the rear of guard and the grip to insert a wood hammer handle. Push the guard forward. Installing a new spring can be a pain. Sometimes they go in on the first time, others I have to take a chill before tossing it across the room!

In all my years of collecting, I've never seen a Lemon Squeezer with a trigger.

me thinks Don prefers we refer to the pistol as safety hammerless....the lemon squeezers to which he refers are found in the produce section of the local grocer.
