Default Found Safety Hammerless 4th change

I had to share this with you guys. How it survived in this condition all these years is just staggering to me. Not a wear mark anywhere. Bore and cylinders mint. Grips number stamped. Serial 20420X. According to Standard catalog roughly 104000 produced from 1898 to 1907. Serial range 116300 to 220000. Rough figuring I'd think 1905-1906? If anybody has better insight let me know.

Your serial number is tucked between 2 close examples, both shipped in 1908. Nice Safety, but there are an unusually large number of both 32 and 38 Safeties in similar condition out there. I believe that most were purchased for home protection and resided in bedroom dresser drawers and in other various pieces of furniture in many homes for decades. Another thing I have noticed about this era S&W is that the nickel finish is about the highest quality of any firearm I have seen and held up extremely well.

These revolvers still do not get their deserved valuation and often can be purchased for a relatively modest sum. Maybe due to the number of survivors out there.

Wow, it's a jewel. Don't you want to sell it?

Thanks for the input guys. Glowe, I have to agree. The fit and nickel finish is just amazing. It looks more like a piece of jewelry than a firearm. You probably have more experience than I certainly but I still cant get over the condition after over 100 years. Not so much as a freckle anywhere. I also agree that they do not get their deserved valuation but that's ok with me for now because I'll buy every one I can get my hands on in this condition for $330.

You found an especially nice one, but there are quite a few that are in really excellent condition out there as glowe mentions, they were purchased for home protection and spent their lives in the sock drawer or similar location. I have a nearly as nice 32 Safety (bicycle gun) of a similar vintage (1907).
